The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed Martins Amaewhule as the recognized Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The court dismissed Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s appeal, citing lack of merit.
The appellate court upheld the Federal High Court’s January 22 judgment, nullifying the 2024 Rivers State budget due to its improper presentation to only four out of 31 assembly members.
Governor Fubara was admonished for disregarding the rule of law. The court ordered him to re-present the budget to the House under Amaewhule’s leadership and refrain from withholding the House’s funds.
