10% of Wesley University’s best graduating students are deaf – VC

          Wesley University, Ondo, is making waves with its inclusive education system, and I’m loving every bit of it! The Vice Chancellor, Rt. Rev. Prof. Sunday Samuel Obeka, just revealed that 10% of the university’s best graduating students for the 2023/2024 academic session are deaf scholars . That’s right, out of 230 students graduating this year, 23 are deaf scholars, and they’re specializing in various fields like computer science, law, and social services.

          But here’s the amazing part: Wesley University has been a pioneer in embracing inclusive education in Nigeria. They have a Directorate of Deaf and Special Needs Education that empowers the deaf community and provides employment opportunities .And, they’re collaborating with Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. to advance education for the deaf.

          The university is also committed to supporting students with disabilities. Last year, six deaf students graduated at the upper level, and this year, eight deaf students are among the graduating class . That’s progress!

          Prof. Obeka also highlighted the university’s partnership with Cliff College to enhance its theological education programs . And, with 39 students achieving first-class honors this year, it’s clear that Wesley University is dedicated to providing world-class education.
