20 people per unit planning to att@ck you when you return to your local government headquarters– Fubara warns new LGA chairmen

Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara has warned newly sworn-in local government chairmen of potential attacks. During their inauguration in Port Harcourt, he alleged that 20 people per unit have been mobilized to confront them at their local government headquarters. However, he urged the chairmen to remain peaceful and calculative, advising them to avoid violence and follow his approach instead .

This warning comes after a contentious local government election, which was marred by explosions and gunfire. The Action Peoples Party secured 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions, while the Action Alliance won one seat. The Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress factions have rejected the election results, citing irregularities and a Federal High Court judgment that barred the poll .

Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in the state, stating that “the peace of this state is too important to us.” He encouraged the chairmen to prioritize the welfare of the people and work towards delivering democratic dividends. The governor also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support and democratic approach .
