The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially terminated its efforts to recruit the 27-year-old Chelsea defender, who qualifies to represent Nigeria through his Nigerian heritage, as reported by OwnGoalNigeria.
According to sources within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the organization has officially ceased its pursuit of a 27-year-old Chelsea defender eligible to represent Nigeria through his heritage. This decision follows three separate approaches made by different Super Eagles coaches, all of which were met with indifference from the player.”Jose Peseiro is, as a matter of fact, the third Super Eagles coach to reach out to him,” an NFF member disclosed. “Gernot Rohr initiated contact, followed by Austine Eguavoen in his capacity as technical director, before Peseiro made his approach.” Despite the defender’s impressive credentials, having represented England at various youth levels from U-16 to U-19, he has yet to make the transition to the senior team.
The NFF’s repeated overtures indicate a strong interest in strengthening the Super Eagles’ defense, but the player’s lack of enthusiasm has prompted a reevaluation of their recruitment strategy.
“It’s now three coaches in a row,” the NFF source remarked. “There’s no need for any further approach. If he wants to play for Nigeria, as Eguavoen mentioned, he knows what to do. We can’t beg any player to represent the Super Eagles if it’s not his wish.”This decision by the NFF highlights their commitment to respecting players’ choices and prioritizing those who are eager to don the national colors. With the defender seemingly focused on securing a spot in England’s senior team, the Super Eagles will now seek alternative options to bolster their defensive lineup.
