A clash between Anambra State revenue collectors and an angry mob in Onitsha has left three persons feared dead. The trouble started when a tipper being pursued by revenue officials lost control and crushed a pedestrian to death.
Eyewitnesses reported that the mob, mostly youths, attacked the revenue officials with clubs, stones, and sticks, killing two of them in retaliation. The police have confirmed the incident and are working to restore calm in the area.
According to Mr. Nzota Chidi, the Onitsha police Area Commander, lectures and counsellings had been given to the revenue agents, but they fell on deaf ears. He stated that the police are yet to get the details of the number of casualties.
