Tyrese Haspil, the personal assistant who killed and dismembered his former boss, Fahim Saleh, the founder of Nigerian ride-hailing startup Gokada, has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison. Haspil, 25, was convicted of murder, grand larceny, and other charges in June.
Prosecutors said Haspil stole $400,000 from Saleh and continued to embezzle funds even after being caught. Fearing discovery, Haspil killed Saleh in his Manhattan apartment in July 2020, using a Taser and a knife. He then dismembered the body with an electric saw.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg stated, “Today, Tyrese Haspil faces accountability for brutally murdering and decapitating Fahim Saleh… While today’s sentence won’t bring Mr. Saleh back, I hope it provides his family a sense of closure.”
