The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has strongly condemned the recent killings in Plateau State, calling them “senseless, utterly reprehensible, and a grave assault on national peace and security”. He visited the state on April 15, 2025, and expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives.

Two high-profile suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings in Bokkos Local Government Area and are assisting with ongoing investigations. The police have deployed additional personnel and resources to enhance rapid response and patrol high-risk areas. Aerial surveillance missions have also been conducted over Bokkos and Bassa areas, and local stakeholders are being engaged in confidence-building efforts.

The government has also responded to the crisis, with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo condemning the killings as horrible. The government has vowed to punish perpetrators and bring lasting solutions. The police are conducting on-the-ground assessments to determine strategic deployment of operational resources.

The impact on communities has been severe, with over 100 people killed in recent attacks, including 51 in the Zike and Kimakpa communities. Over 3,000 people have been displaced due to the violence, and more than 300 homes have been destroyed in the affected areas.
