The Ondo State Police Command has denied reports that a vehicle in the convoy of First Lady Sen. Oluremi Tinubu was responsible for the death of a seven-year-old girl in Akure. According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, eyewitness accounts and preliminary investigations confirm that the incident was caused by a hit-and-run driver operating an unregistered white Lexus vehicle.
A witness who observed the hit-and-run incident pursued the fleeing vehicle on a motorcycle, and their accounts were corroborated by several individuals at the scene, as well as by the victim’s parents. The police described a report by Sahara Reporters as “false and misleading,” noting that the publication inaccurately claimed the deceased girl’s age.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State has personally visited the grieving family to assure them of a full and transparent investigation into the incident. The police emphasized that the First Lady’s convoy was not involved in the tragedy and are working to ensure justice is served.
