“EFCC Grills comedian AY, Over Naira Abuse Allegations”

Comedian AY has spoken out after being questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged naira abuse. In a statement, AY confirmed that he was invited by the EFCC due to the public spraying of local and foreign currencies at a social event, which is considered a violation of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulations.

AY expressed gratitude to the EFCC for their understanding and pardon, stating that the money sprayed was not linked to criminal or illicit sources. He described the experience as a “valuable lesson” and pledged to use his platform to educate the public on respecting the national currency.

The comedian emphasized the importance of upholding the dignity of the naira, citing Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, which makes acts like spraying, tearing, or defacing the currency punishable offenses. AY’s comments come after Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo was also questioned by the EFCC over similar allegations related to her daughter’s wedding .
