The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has dismissed northern voices opposing President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election in 2027, describing them as self-seeking individuals frustrated by a lack of recognition and patronage. AYCF President Alhaji Yerima Shettima criticized former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of attempting to speak for the entire north to maintain political relevance. According to Yerima, El-Rufai’s recent public posturing is driven by personal disappointment over not securing a ministerial role in Tinubu’s administration.

The AYCF leader emphasized that it is premature to judge Tinubu’s performance after less than two years in office. He urged critics to allow Tinubu to complete his first term before drawing conclusions, noting that the president inherited significant challenges that cannot be solved in a single year. The AYCF is urging patience and caution, warning against heating up the polity over perceived slights or lack of appointments.
