A building collapse in Edo State has left several University of Benin students trapped, with some rescued and others still missing . The incident occurred on Ekhator Street, Benin, during an early morning downpour, causing panic in the student community at Ekosodin . Rescue efforts are ongoing, with the university’s Dean of Student Affairs coordinating the operation alongside a university team and the State Fire Service .
The collapse could be attributed to a heavy downpour that started in the early hours of Saturday which fell till about 10 am.
“A university staff member said that the serious incident occurred early Saturday morning. While on duty, they received a call and rushed to the scene, where they are currently working to rescue those trapped. Some people have been rescued, but others remain stuck, and additional help is needed to ensure everyone’s safety. The university management has not yet released an official statement about the incident.”
