Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has unveiled the #OneNigeria/UnityFabric, a powerful symbol of national unity designed by 25-year-old Mofinyinfoluwa Bamidele, a graduate of the University of Ibadan ¹ ². This initiative aims to break down tribal barriers and celebrate Nigeria’s cultural diversity.
The #OneNigeria/UnityFabric competition, organized by the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), chaired by Senator Tinubu, drew 111 entries from youths aged 15-25. A panel of esteemed judges, including Princess Zainab Abba Folawiyo and Miss Banke Kuku, selected Bamidele’s design as the winner, earning her a prize of N25 million.
Senator Tinubu shared the inspiration behind this project, stemming from her visit to Zimbabwe in December 2023, where she encountered a similar national fabric concept ¹ ². She believes this initiative will unify Nigerians, emphasizing, “I believe this concept is a unifying one, where we can infuse our cultural diversity and break down tribal barriers to identify as a people of one nation.”
The unveiling ceremony, held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, marked a significant step towards promoting national unity and celebrating Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
