In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has rescued Mrs. Gambo Genevieve, Head of Service at the Department of Physical Education in Logone and Chari, Cameroon, along with five others from terrorist captivity in the Lake Chad Region ¹. The successful rescue mission was executed after troops deployed in Mora responded to a distress call from locals in the villages of Gangawa and Kangaleri in Gogolom, Division of Mora.
Upon arrival, the troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to flee and abandon their abducted victims. The rescued individuals are currently undergoing medical examination. This operation highlights the MNJTF’s unwavering commitment to neutralizing terrorist threats in the region.
In a separate operation, MNJTF troops intercepted a key Boko Haram logistics supplier, Babagana Zaninu, in Gubio. Zaninu was caught with a Toyota pickup loaded with assorted food items, illicit drugs, and other supplies intended for Boko Haram fighters. The items included soft drinks, sugar, flour, and other food supplies ¹. During interrogation, Zaninu confessed that the items were purchased from the Gubio market and were meant to be delivered to Gazabure Village in Gubio for the terrorists.
These successful operations demonstrate the MNJTF’s effectiveness in disrupting critical supply lines that sustain terrorist operations in the Lake Chad region. The region has faced significant security challenges, including kidnappings and terrorism, with the Chad-Cameroon-CAR border area being a hotspot for criminal activity ¹ ². The MNJTF’s efforts are crucial in stabilizing the region and preventing the spread of terrorism.
