Ogun State House of Assembly is urging the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) to follow due process in the upcoming November 16 Local Government election. Speaker Oludaisi Elemide emphasized that all electoral processes must align with the nation’s constitution and state electoral act. The Assembly is willing to collaborate with OGSIEC to ensure a free and fair election.
Lawmakers, including Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye and Yusuf Amosun, stressed the importance of adhering to constitutional guidelines to prevent unnecessary litigation. They also offered to amend the state electoral law if needed.
The IPAC Public Relations Officer, Itunu Abioro, requested reduced administrative fees to encourage more candidates to participate. Commissioner Tunji Akonni assured that OGSIEC follows approved electoral guidelines and will continue to engage with stakeholders.
Akonni counselled the political parties to present credible candidates, engage in vigorous campaigns and present credible party agents to monitor their vote at the polling booth, recalling that the majority of political parties did not have party agents to represent them during election days.
