Vice President of Malawi, Dr. Michael Usi, has emphasized the importance of quality production for Malawian producers to achieve premium market prices. During his visit to the BOMFA Farmers Cooperative in Kasungu on September 18, 2024, Dr. Usi praised BOMFA’s transformative impact on the local economy and lives of its members ¹ ².
BOMFA, a beneficiary of NEEF loans, has successfully utilized the funds to invest in maize, soya beans, and sunflower cultivation, and has also ventured into producing, packaging, and distributing sunflower cooking oil. Dr. Usi noted that BOMFA’s success demonstrates the potential of Malawians to eradicate poverty through quality production and self-sufficiency.
Dr. Usi also shared a personal experience from his medical career, highlighting the importance of viewing individuals as deserving of dignity and opportunity, rather than just numbers or votes. He urged NEEF to continue making loans accessible to all, especially the most vulnerable, and encouraged youth and women to leverage NEEF loans to improve their lives.
For women, Dr. Usi championed empowerment through hard work and independence, emphasizing that an independent woman makes her own decisions and stands on her own two feet. His vision for an empowered, self-sustaining Malawi is clear, and his dedication to inclusive financial opportunities has led to the introduction of the VUWUKANI MUWUMPHAWI loans ¹.
The Vice President’s visit to BOMFA marked a significant milestone, with the cooperative receiving K250 million, the largest loan ever granted by NEEF to a group. This investment demonstrates the potential for local businesses to thrive with the right support ¹ ².
