A Kano State High Court has scheduled a ruling for October 10, 2024, regarding an application seeking to prevent the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, from renovating the Nasarawa mini palace. Bayero has been residing in the palace since his deposition on May 25, 2024.
The applicants, including the Kano State Government, Attorney General of Kano, and Kano Emirate Council, filed a motion ex parte on September 12 to restrain Bayero from renovating the palace. During the hearing, counsel for the applicants, Habib Akilu, informed the court that the defendant was not represented and the substantive suit was ripe for hearing.
Chief Judge Justice Dije Aboki adjourned the matter until October 10, 2024, for ruling and mention of the substantive suit, ordering that all processes be pasted on the court’s notice board.
The court had previously granted an interim injunction on September 13, 2024, ordering Bayero to refrain from renovating or repairing the palace until the motion is heard and determined. The order directs parties to maintain the status quo regarding the palace’s structural and architectural design.
