Tragedy struck in Katsina State, Nigeria, on Friday evening, October 4, 2024, when bandits ambushed and killed nine security operatives from the Katsina State Community Watch Corps and Vigilante Corps in Faskari and Matazu Local Government Areas. The operatives were providing security for farmers harvesting crops near Unguwar Kafa along the Yankara-Faskari road when they were attacked .
The victims included Mubarak Shu’aibu Labo, Muhammad Hassan, Mubarak Shu’aibu, and an unidentified officer, as well as vigilante members Babangida Bature (also known as Babangida Doza) and Ibrahim Rishi . In a separate attack, bandits ambushed vigilante members from Matazu Local Government, killing at least three officers and injuring one .
Governor Dikko Umaru of Katsina State has condemned the attack and praised the bravery and sacrifice of the security operatives who lost their lives in the line of duty . The governor assured the families of the deceased of the state’s unwavering support and recognized the operatives as true heroes of Katsina State.
