The Abia State Police Command has denied allegations of bribery involving its officers attached to the Aba Area Command. A social media blogger claimed that the officers demanded N100,000 each from 10 suspects as bail ¹. However, the police have revealed that preliminary investigations show no evidence of extortion.
The Incident
The Aba Area Command received a complaint from Life Stock Feed PLC Aba on October 3, 2024, alleging that several staff members had misappropriated company funds and stolen production materials. Suspects connected to the crime were arrested for investigation.
The Allegation
Samuel Okoye, who made the viral social media post, attempted to secure bail for three of the suspects but was refused by the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) due to the ongoing investigation. Okoye allegedly threatened the IPO and later refused to honor a police invitation, stating his allegations were made in anger.
Police Response
The police command has pledged to investigate the matter and take action against any unprofessional conduct. They urge the public to verify information accuracy before posting and warn that defamatory posts will face legal action.
The police are taking steps to ensure transparency and accountability, and an investigation is ongoing to uncover the truth behind the allegations.
