Suspended Alimosho LG boss, vice clash over control of office

Tension is running high at the Alimosho Local Government Area secretariat as the suspended Chairman, Jelili Sulaimon, and Vice Chairman, Akinpelu Johnson, clash over control of the office. This comes after the Lagos State House of Assembly suspended Sulaimon on Monday due to allegations of misconduct . The lawmakers instructed the council’s Manager and Treasurer to support Johnson, but Sulaimon defied the suspension order and showed up at the secretariat, receiving a warm welcome from supporters .

Sulaimon’s lawyer claims the suspension is illegal and unconstitutional, citing the Supreme Court’s decision affirming local government autonomy . The lawyer argues that the Lagos State House of Assembly exceeded its constitutional mandates and is undermining the rule of law.

It was gathered that a few minutes later the two left the premises to an undisclosed destination.

Four out of seven councillors from Alimosho Local Government have rejected the suspension of Vice Chairman Akinpelu Johnson, imposed by their three colleagues. In a statement, Deputy Leader Mojisola Ayeni, Saheed Adejoke, Rasheed Semiu, and Elizabeth Fashina commended the House of Assembly’s intervention and urged stakeholders to continue their activities peacefully .

The councillors described the suspension as “staged managed and illegal,” emphasizing their support for Johnson. This development comes after the Lagos State House of Assembly suspended Chairman Jelili Sulaimon indefinitely, following various allegations.

We condemn the purported suspension of the Vice Chairman by minority legislators, who acted on instructions of the validly suspended Chairman.

“We would like to emphasize that at no time was the Vice Chairman suspended hence our readiness to support him going forward with the administration of the Local Government.”
