The Sokoto state government has just released N95.4 million for the maintenance of mosques

Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has released funds for the maintenance of 87 Juma’at mosques across the state, totaling millions of naira. The funds were disbursed at the Sultan Muhammadu Maccido Institute for Qur’anic and General Studies, with the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, representing the governor .

The mosques were categorized into three tiers, with 20 receiving N500,000 each, 17 getting N400,000 each, and 50 allocated N300,000 each. These payments cover August, September, and October, and were delayed due to some mosques lacking bank accounts .

This initiative aligns with Governor Aliyu’s 9-point agenda, which includes promoting religious activities. Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar commended the gesture, urging other states to follow suit and reminding mosque committees to use the funds responsibly, as they are accountable to God .

Additionally, the state government is constructing over 35 mosques across 23 local government areas, with the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Dr. Jabir Maihula, encouraging committees to ensure the mosques remain conducive for worship .
