The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is urging Nigerians to familiarize themselves with their rights as electricity customers and ensure that service providers meet these obligations ¹. According to Aisha Mahmoud, NERC’s Commissioner for Customer Affairs, many Nigerians are unaware of their rights, despite being listed on the Commission’s website.
To address this issue, NERC organized a 3-day Customer Complaints Resolution Town Hall Meeting in Osogbo, where customers can have their complaints resolved on the spot ¹. Mahmoud emphasized that the meeting aims to listen to customers, address their concerns, and educate them on their rights and obligations.
NERC’s Efforts to Educate Customers
NERC has been conducting town hall meetings across the country to sensitize customers about their rights and resolve complaints ¹ ². The Commission has also established forum offices in various states, including Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Lafia, and Osogbo, among others ³ ⁴. These offices provide customers with a platform to file complaints and seek resolution.
How to File a Complaint
Customers can file complaints with their respective Distribution Companies (DisCos) in writing ³. If dissatisfied with the DisCo’s resolution or delayed response, customers can escalate their complaints to the NERC Forum for resolution ³.
By educating customers about their rights and obligations, NERC aims to promote a more informed and empowered electricity consumer base in Nigeria.
