  • Dr. Henry Akinduro sues EFCC for N5 billion over unlawful “wanted” declaration.
  • EFCC declared Akinduro wanted on October 11, 2024, without judicial intervention or court order.
  • Dispute stems from N240 million contractual issue with Femi Olushakin.
  • Akinduro claims he was unavailable due to medical reasons, provided assurances of cooperation.
  • EFCC action deemed unlawful, violating Akinduro’s fundamental human rights.
  • Suit seeks removal of Akinduro’s name from EFCC’s wanted list.

Dr. Henry Akinduro, Chairman/CEO of Global Signature Hotel and Total Grace Group Limited, has taken the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to court, seeking N5 billion in damages for allegedly declaring him wanted unlawfully. Akinduro claims the EFCC’s declaration was made without any judicial intervention or order of court .

According to his lawyer, Olalekan Ojo, the EFCC’s actions were prompted by a petition from Femi Olushakin, with whom Akinduro had a N240 million contractual dispute. Ojo states that Akinduro was invited by the EFCC on June 4, 2024, and responded, explaining his unavailability due to medical reasons. Despite this, the EFCC declared him wanted on October 11, 2024, without further request or valid charge .

Akinduro’s team argues that the dispute is a civil business transaction with no element of criminality. They claim Olushakin sold the collateral (three 60-Seater Yutong buses) and is using the Toyota 4Runner SUV, which was also part of the collateral, for personal use .

The lawsuit seeks to have Akinduro’s name removed from the EFCC’s wanted list, citing violations of his fundamental human rights to personal liberty and dignity. Akinduro’s lawyer emphasizes his client’s willingness to cooperate with the investigation upon his return to Nigeria .
