- Defection driven by President Tinubu’s reforms and Ekiti Governor Oyebanji’s influence
A significant shift has occurred in Ekiti State’s political landscape as Kemi Elebute-Halle, a former governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Elebute-Halle, alongside over 7,000 supporters from six geopolitical zones, officially joined the APC on Thursday. The group was received by APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, at the party secretariat in Abuja.
According to Elebute-Halle, President Bola Tinubu’s administration reforms and Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s influence were pivotal factors in her decision to defect. She expressed optimism that the reforms will ultimately benefit the country.
Governor Oyebanji’s Role
Oyebanji played a crucial role in convincing Elebute-Halle to join the APC. His intervention helped seal her decision to defect, with Elebute-Halle praising his efforts.
APC’s Response
Ganduje commended Elebute-Halle and her supporters for their bold decision, assuring them of equal opportunities within the APC. The new members will be involved in all party activities.
This mass defection bolsters the APC’s presence in Ekiti State, signaling a significant realignment of political forces in the region.
