MTN Nigeria Unveils Eco-Friendly SIM Cards to Reduce Carbon Footprint
MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has introduced biodegradable, paper-based SIM cards as part of its sustainability efforts to reduce carbon emissions and plastic pollution in the country. This initiative supports the company’s Project Zero goals, aiming for net zero emissions by 2040.
The eco-friendly SIM cards, made from 100% biodegradable paper, offer a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic-based SIM cards. This shift helps minimize waste pollution, reduces carbon emissions during production and disposal, and promotes circularity.
Tobe Okigbo, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Nigeria, emphasized the benefits of the new SIM cards, stating, “These eco-friendly SIMs can biodegrade naturally and are recyclable, addressing material problems associated with plastic SIM cards.”
Adekemi Adisa, General Manager of Sustainability and Shared Value at MTN, added, “Our commitment to sustainability drives innovative measures. The recyclable SIM cards encourage eco-friendly choices, reduce waste, and pave the way for a more environmentally conscious future for Nigerians.”
This initiative demonstrates MTN Nigeria’s dedication to environmental responsibility, local partnerships, and sustainable business practices.
