Ekiti State Experiences Widespread Power Outage Following Devastating Storm

  • Severe Rainstorm: A rainstorm hit Ekiti State on Friday night, damaging electricity poles and causing power outages.
  • Affected Areas: Communities impacted include Ajebamidele, Omisanjana, Atlas (Ado Ekiti), Ikere Ekiti, Ise Ekiti, and Emure Ekiti.
  • Damage: At least six concrete electric poles were destroyed, disrupting traffic and social and economic activities.
  • Power Substation Affected: The 132/133 KVA power substation in Omisanjana was impacted, affecting neighboring towns.

A severe rainstorm wreaked havoc on Ekiti State, leaving many communities in darkness. The storm, which occurred on Friday night and Saturday morning, brought down high-tension cables and poles connecting key power substations.

Response Efforts:

  • Benin Electricity Distribution Company officials visited the scene on Saturday to assess damage.
  • Repair efforts are expected to commence soon to restore power.

The affected communities are experiencing disruptions in traffic, social, and economic activities. The Ekiti State government’s recently constructed road, connecting Ado-Ikere Highway and Omisanjana, has been blocked by fallen poles.
