Nigeria Assumes Key Roles in African Legislative Body

Nigeria has gained significant representation in the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL) with two key appointments. Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has been elected to CoSPAL’s Advisory Committee, while President Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant, Dapo Oyewole, will serve as Secretary-General.

The elections took place at CoSPAL’s 2nd General Assembly meeting in Accra, Ghana, where Ghana’s Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Bagbin, was re-elected Chairman. The assembly hosted national legislative leaders from across Africa, emphasizing CoSPAL’s mission of strengthening African legislative collaboration.

Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, representing Nigeria’s Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, proposed constitutional amendments to boost efficiency, transparency, and accountability. The recommendations were accepted by the General Assembly. The newly elected officials will be inaugurated soon.
