The Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) arrested a tanker driver, Afeez Adegbola, 47, on Friday night in Ikirun for diverting 10,000 liters of petrol meant for the NNPC mega station in Osogbo. The driver had loaded 40,000 liters of petrol at Pinnacle Distribution Depot in Eleko, Lagos, but only delivered 30,000 liters to the NNPC filling station. He was caught discharging the remaining 10,000 liters at a private filling station in Ikirun.
According to the Commandant of NSCDC in Osun State, Sotiyo Igbalawole, the driver and his motor boys made a confessional statement that they were directed by their company to deliver only 30,000 liters to the NNPC mega station, while the remaining 10,000 liters were taken to a private filling station. This act is contrary to the Petroleum Production and Distribution (Anti-Sabotage) Act, and the suspects will be charged to court after a thorough investigation.
The NSCDC is urging stakeholders in the distribution of petroleum products nationwide to steer clear of sabotage, and is requesting NNPC managers and supervisors to work with them to bring saboteurs to justice.
