– Settlement of Earned Allowances arrears

- NAAT’s ultimatum aligns with ASUU’s 14-day deadline for similar issues.
- Potential indefinite strike may disrupt academic calendar, research, and laboratory activities.
- NAAT urges stakeholders and concerned Nigerians to intervene and prevent strike.
The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has given the Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum, threatening an indefinite strike if their demands aren’t met. NAAT President, Comrade Ibeji Nwokoma, expressed frustration over the Minister of Finance’s refusal to release withheld salaries, despite President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval. This delay has raised concerns about the government’s commitment to addressing NAAT’s grievances.
NAAT’s Demands:
- Payment of Withheld Salaries: Release of salaries withheld due to the 2022 strike.
- Full Implementation of 2009 FGN/NAAT Agreement: Complete implementation of the agreement signed between NAAT and the Federal Government.
- Settlement of Earned Allowances Arrears: Payment of outstanding earned allowances.
- Upgrading Public University Laboratories: Improvement of laboratory facilities in public universities.
The union has instructed its branches to organize protests and congresses. If the government fails to meet their demands by November 13, 2024, NAAT will initiate a national protest and indefinite strike. This ultimatum aligns with similar actions taken by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), which has also given the Federal Government a 14-day deadline to address related issues .
