• Allegations involve using organization’s resources for personal gain, totaling 1.3 million rand ($72,000)
• Accused of hiring private security and public relations companies without authorization
• Jordaan denies charges, has served as SAFA president since 2013

Danny Jordaan, the president of the South African Football Association (SAFA), was arrested and charged on November 13, 2024, for allegedly using the organization’s resources for personal gain. The charges, which Jordaan denies, include hiring a private security company for his own protection and a public relations firm without authorization from the SAFA board.

The allegations stem from an intensive investigation by the Serious Commercial Crime Investigation based in Johannesburg, which uncovered irregularities totaling 1.3 million rand ($72,000) between 2014 and 2018. Jordaan, 73, has served as SAFA president since 2013 and was re-elected for a third term in 2022.

It’s worth noting that Jordaan faced previous allegations of sexual assault in 2017, which he denied. The current charges are unrelated to those allegations. The case highlights concerns about corruption and misuse of power within sports organizations.
