Lebanese officials are cautiously optimistic about a new US truce proposal aimed at ending the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. The proposal, comprising 13 points across five pages, was discussed by US Ambassador Lisa Johnson with Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Hezbollah-allied parliament speaker Nabih Berri.

A second Lebanese official expressed optimism about the talks, citing the proposal’s alignment with Resolution 1701, which calls for Lebanese troops and UN peacekeepers to be the only armed forces in the south ¹. However, Lebanon may object to any agreement allowing Israeli forces to conduct operations inside Lebanon.

Israel’s Response:
Israel has yet to respond to the initiative, with officials recently vowing to continue fighting against Hezbollah.

US Stance:
The US State Department reaffirmed commitment to a diplomatic resolution, seeking a lasting calm allowing residents in both Lebanon and Israel to return safely to their homes.
