Over 33,000 applicants are vying for just 2,208 spots in the Cross River State civil service. This massive response follows the government’s advertisement for 2,000 core service jobs and 208 health sector positions.
The state Civil Service Commission received an overwhelming 31,818 applications for core civil service jobs, with only 750 applicants making the shortlist. Similarly, the health sector drew 2,137 applications, with 206 applicants selected for further consideration.
A closer look at the application numbers reveals some interesting trends. Clerical officer positions attracted the most interest, with 8,358 applicants. Administrative officers and messengers followed closely, with 7,700 and 1,916 applicants, respectively.
In contrast, certain positions garnered relatively little interest. Firemen, drivers, and security personnel drew only 370, 401, and 551 applicants, respectively.
The health sector also saw varied interest in different roles. Nursing professionals led the pack with 1,184 applicants, followed by medical laboratory scientists and public health/environmental health specialists with 446 and 300 applicants.
The commission will notify shortlisted applicants of interview dates and times, marking the next step in the recruitment process.
