The Nigerian Senate has made a correction to its earlier decision to sack Danladi Umar as Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). The correction comes after the Senate realized it made a mistake by invoking the wrong Constitutional provision, Section 157(1), instead of paragraph 17(3) PT 1, Fifth Schedule to the Constitution.
The Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, sponsored a motion to correct the mistake, which was approved by the Senate. The correction also involves invoking Section 22(3) of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act Cap C15, LFN 2004.
In addition, the Senate seeks the concurrence of the House of Representatives to the resolution, in accordance with paragraph 17(3) PT I, Fifth Schedule to the Constitution. The Senate also urged the general public to disregard any misinformation or confusion regarding the mistake.
