- The National President of AUFCDN, Mohammed Tahir, attributed the price increase to the high cost of fuel, daily extortion, and double taxation on federal highways.
- Tahir warned that the price increase will continue into the New Year, exacerbating the already significant hardship faced by Nigerians.
The Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN) has warned Nigerians to expect a significant increase in food prices in December. According to the National President of AUFCDN, Mohammed Tahir, the rising costs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and diesel, combined with daily extortion and double taxation on federal highways, are severely impacting foodstuff transporters.
Tahir explained that the cost of transporting foodstuff has become prohibitively expensive, with each trailer-load of rice, beans, corn, and other commodities from Sokoto to Port Harcourt costing N2.25 million. He warned that the cost of food will escalate as the Christmas season approaches, worsening the already significant hardship Nigerians are facing.
