The South East Senate Caucus is calling for wider consultations on the Tax Reform Bills proposed by President Bola Tinubu. According to Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, the caucus leader, they’re not opposed to the bills but want broader consultations to be conducted before their full consideration in both chambers .
The caucus wants to engage with their constituents across the 15 senatorial districts in the zone, as well as with state governments and other critical stakeholders. They’ve reviewed the bills and want to share their knowledge with other stakeholders from the South East Zone for a more equitable framework .
The Tax Reform Bills have generated controversy since President Tinubu forwarded them to the Senate and House of Representatives for consideration. While the Presidency and the South-South Caucus in the Senate are advocating for the immediate consideration of the bills, other stakeholders are demanding wider consultations .
