Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has unveiled plans to establish the Ministry of Livestock Development by January 2025. This move aims to transform the livestock subsector into a viable employer of labor. Mutfwang made this announcement during a stakeholders’ engagement forum, where the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee, led by Professor Attahiru Jega, visited Jos.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a solid foundation for livestock development. He commended President Bola Tinubu for initiating practical measures to revive the livestock sector, which has the potential to address lingering security challenges and generate substantial revenue for the country’s economy.
Mutfwang emphasized that his administration will domesticate the national initiative, considering local peculiarities, to move forward together. He believes that a secure environment isn’t just about the presence of soldiers, but rather the absence of soldiers, and that the focus should be on policies and strategies that de-escalate conflicts while building a progressive livestock ecosystem.
Professor Attahiru Jega, Co-Chairman of the Committee, commended Governor Mutfwang for his enthusiasm and commitment to realizing the immense potential of the livestock sector.
