The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that five airlines will face penalties for violating Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations. The airlines, which include three domestic operators and two international airlines, breached regulations on non-payment of refunds, non-responsiveness to directives, and flight disruptions.
According to the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, NCAA, Mr. Michael Achimugu, the airlines failed to comply with regulations on refund payments, responsiveness to directives, and handling of missing, manhandled, short-landed, delayed, and cancelled flights.
Achimugu emphasized that while airlines may not always be responsible for flight disruptions, NCAA regulations stipulate actions that airlines must take during disruptions. Failure to comply with these regulations will attract various levels of sanctions.
The NCAA had previously warned airlines that failure to pay refunds within the stipulated timeframe would result in sanctions. Achimugu stated that the Consumer Protection Department of the NCAA has taken steps to sensitize passengers and protect the business of operators, and it is now time for airlines to reciprocate by complying with regulations.
