Stampede: Stop Politicising Tragedies, Presidency Tells Obi

  • The Presidency has criticised Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate, for politicising the recent tragic stampedes that claimed lives in Oyo, Anambra, and Abuja.

The Presidency has condemned Peter Obi’s comments on the recent tragic stampedes, describing them as indecent and lacking in statesmanship. Obi had expressed concern over the systemic failures plaguing Nigeria, citing the nation’s abundant resources and fertile land, yet citizens are dying of hunger.

In response, Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to President Bola Tinubu, Sunday Dare, accused Obi of politicising the tragedies to score cheap points. Dare stated that President Tinubu had cancelled all engagements, expressed profound sadness over the loss of lives, and ordered an immediate investigation, demonstrating true leadership.

The Labour Party has insisted that the food stampedes are evidence of the hunger epidemic in Nigeria, calling on the government to redirect its policies towards food production. The APC has also responded to the PDP’s criticism, reminding them of the tragic stampede at the 2014 Nigerian Immigration Service recruitment exercise under the PDP administration.
