  • However, some officials at the top level of government are reportedly plotting to remove the chairmen from office.

In obedience to a court order, some local government chairmen in Edo State have resumed work, carrying out their official duties despite attempts to remove them from office ¹. The chairmen, including Tajudeen Alade of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, have been attending to official matters and addressing workers.

Alade emphasized the need for autonomy in local governments, stating that it would bring development to the people. He appealed to Governor Monday Okpebholo to remain neutral and work with the chairmen for the benefit of the state.

However, not all chairmen were able to resume work due to disruptions caused by suspected thugs. In Etsako East LG, Chairman Princess Benedicta Atoh stayed away from the office for the second day due to a toxic environment created by the thugs.

The situation is calm in Orhionmwon, where the councilors are on the same page with the chairman, Newman Ugiagbe. The Edo State High Court had ordered the restoration of the suspended local government council chairmen and vice chairmen, following a suit filed by the affected officials.
