Tension is brewing in Kwara State, Nigeria, after Senator Saliu Mustapha’s billboards were suddenly removed by suspected hoodlums. The Kwara State Government has claimed responsibility for taking down two of the billboards, citing non-payment of advertisement fees and construction work in the area as reasons.
According to Alhaji Ismail Asukuti, General Manager of Kwara State Signage and Advertising Agency (KWASAA), Senator Mustapha’s billboard in Police ‘A’ division was removed due to construction work, while the one in Maraba was taken down because the Senator allegedly failed to pay the advertisement fee.
This incident has sparked political tensions, with some attributing it to the rivalry between Senator Mustapha and Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq, both members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Senator is considered a strong contender for the 2027 gubernatorial election.
The removal of the billboards has also generated heated discussions on social media, with some Facebook users condemning the act and calling for an investigation. Others have attributed the incident to “dirty politics” in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
