- The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a new kidnapping trend called ‘Constructive Kidnapping’, where kidnappers pose as internet friends and lovers to lure victims.
- At least 16 ladies have been rescued from this trap, with the kidnappers using tactics like sending money and booking luxury hotels to gain their trust.
- A 15-year-old girl was also rescued after conspiring with her boyfriend to demand ransom from her parents by pretending to be kidnapped.
The kidnappers’ modus operandi involves establishing a false sense of acquaintance on social media, inviting victims to Lagos under the guise of a romantic rendezvous, and then seizing their phones and demanding ransom from their relatives. According to Commissioner of Police Olawale Ishola, the victims unwittingly walk into the trap, but the police are always one step ahead.
