Tanker Explosion in Niger State Claims Over 100 Lives
A devastating tanker explosion occurred on the Lapai-Agaie road in Niger State, resulting in the loss of over 100 lives. The tragedy happened when a petrol tanker collided with a trailer carrying passengers and cows, causing a massive fire that engulfed several vehicles.
Eyewitnesses reported that at least 100 people were burnt alive in the inferno, while the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) confirmed 30 deaths. The agency’s Rapid Response Team is still conducting search and rescue operations, with more corpses believed to be trapped inside the vehicles.
The incident also resulted in the death of over 50 cattle and damage to several vehicles. Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State has expressed sadness over the loss of lives and property, calling for calm and urging road users to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations.
The governor has also prayed for the souls of the departed and wished for a speedy recovery for those injured in the explosion. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
