The Sam Ethnam Air Force Base Ikeja, Lagos, has been disconnected from the grid due to an unpaid debt of N4.3 billion to Ikeja Electric Plc. The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) has made it clear that reconnection is not possible until the debt is settled.

Sunday Oduntan, Executive Director, Research and Advocacy at ANED, stated that “Reconnection is not possible immediately. They have to pay what they owe us.” This stance has been supported by other stakeholders, including the Chief Executive Officer, Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE), Dr. Muda Yusuf.

The invasion of Ikeja Electric’s headquarters by Air Force officials, which resulted in vandalism and physical harm to personnel, has been widely condemned. Dr. Yusuf described the incident as a “jungle approach” to solving problems, emphasizing that there are more orderly and acceptable ways to resolve issues.
