A massive explosion occurred at Otedola Bridge in Lagos yesterday evening, triggering a huge fire. The blast happened at 8:08 p.m. and involved a tanker carrying petroleum products. According to Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire spread to a nearby church, a bungalow, and four vehicles .
Eyewitnesses reported that the tanker, a 30-ton DAF Gas Truck, was traveling along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the explosion occurred. Motorists in the area panicked, making quick U-turns or abandoning their vehicles to escape the inferno.
This incident bears some resemblance to a 2014 fire outbreak at Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan, where properties worth millions of naira were destroyed . In that incident, the fire started around 11:40 p.m. and was eventually put out by a combined effort of firefighters and local residents .
