The Director of The Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Sam Amadi, has taken to his official X account to speak about land in Igbo land.

Sam Amadi made the statement following a claim by Arise TV presenter, Dr. Abati, that Igbos don’t sell land to non-indigenes.

  • According to Sam Amadi on his page on Saturday, he said in his village, he can’t purchase community land
  • He stated that during farming season, they receive a portion of the land to farm, and when the season is over, the land becomes communal ownership.- He added that once family land is shared, he can sell his own to anybody.
  • According to Sam Amadi: “In my village, I cannot buy community land. I and my wife receive portion every farming season like any other married male and wife.
  • After the season, the land reverts to communal ownership. Once family land is shared, I can sell mine to a Kanuri man.”
