A disturbing trend is emerging in Nigeria, where young girls are being targeted by cartels for organ harvesting, specifically their ovaries. These victims, often from poor backgrounds, are lured with promises of money or medical treatment, only to be subjected to horrific exploitation.

The practice, which thrives in the shadows of Nigeria’s healthcare system, involves criminals posing as doctors or trusted figures who offer false hope to vulnerable girls. The trade is now under scrutiny as more people demand action against the abuse and trafficking of human organs.

A recent case highlights the disturbing reality of this practice. Two teenagers had their ovaries harvested without consent by a doctor at a private hospital in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The girls were allegedly convinced by an adult church member and were promised money and threatened with death if they told anyone.

The case was reported, but it was soon ignored, and the investigating officer was transferred. The girls claimed they were injected with drugs and forced to undergo a procedure, resulting in severe pain and bleeding. Further medical tests revealed extensive damage to their organs, including their liver, uterus, kidneys, and bladder.

Doctors and human rights activists are speaking out against this illegal practice, which is a violation of human rights. The exploitation of minors for reproductive materials is a chilling violation of rights that urgently needs attention.
