The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State and Governor Ademola Adeleke have traded words over a billboard in Iwo town featuring President Bola Tinubu and the governor. The billboard, which bears the inscription “Continuity of Progress”, has sparked controversy, with the APC condemning it as “fraudulent” and “dirty politics”.

The APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, has dissociated the party from the billboard, attributing it to a faceless group called “Osun Leaders of Thought”. He claims that the billboard is a flagrant display of irreverent attitude orchestrated by political elements seeking to compare the sky with the ground.

However, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, has countered that the APC’s frustration stems from their own integrity crisis and fear of the governor’s rising popularity. Rasheed highlights the Adeleke administration’s achievements, including a cultural tourism partnership with the British Museum and business linkages with the UK through the Nigeria-UK Chamber of Commerce.

Rasheed also notes that the opposition is confused about the groundswell of support for Governor Adeleke across party lines and across local and national audiences. He attributes the APC’s reaction to their lost credibility from the Presidency to key national caucuses and their unelectability.
