- The National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr Eze-Onyebuchi Chukwu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to consider allowing responsible Nigerians to bear arms for self-defense.
- Chukwu expressed concern over the alarming rise in kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities across the country.
- He emphasized that security agencies alone cannot effectively address the growing insecurity, highlighting the need for responsible firearm ownership.
- Chukwu urged President Tinubu to initiate a bill in the National Assembly that would grant law-abiding Nigerians the right to own certain firearms.
The APGA youth leader’s call for civilian firearm ownership comes as Nigeria grapples with rising insecurity. Chukwu argued that allowing responsible citizens to bear arms would provide them with a means of self-defense against armed criminals. He emphasized that the current situation, where law-abiding citizens are at the mercy of teenage criminals with access to firearms, is unacceptable.
