Atiku Abubakar Backs Anti-Damagum Faction in PDP Crisis

Atiku Abubakar

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has endorsed the efforts to remove Umar Damagum as acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Atiku has reportedly reached out to anti-Damagum members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), advocating for his ouster.

The move has divided the 13 PDP state governors, with seven supporting Damagum’s removal and four backing his retention. The crisis stems from Damagum’s leadership and failure to implement reforms, exacerbated by his transfer of control of the Rivers State PDP structure to Minister Nyesom Wike.

Atiku’s support for the anti-Damagum faction aligns with his previous disagreements with Wike. A senior PDP NWC member confirmed Atiku’s involvement, stating he encouraged the group to uphold the party’s constitution and traditions.
