A body found by construction workers in a Vienna apartment block cellar has been confirmed to be a homicide victim, buried for approximately 25 years. The decomposing body, wrapped in plastic bags, was discovered in April in the Margareten district.
Extensive forensic and scientific examinations indicated the man was around 30 years old. Police published photos of the victim’s burgundy tracksuit to gather more clues. International police cooperation and database comparisons have yet to establish the victim’s identity.
The discovery was made while workers excavated the basement for a new concrete floor. Authorities were initially alerted to a foul smell in the building.
