Betta Edu, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, won’t be returning to President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga made this clear on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, October 27. This decision comes after Edu’s suspension in January due to allegations of a ₦585 million scandal in her ministry .
President Tinubu had ordered a thorough investigation into the alleged fraud, promising to take decisive action against anyone found involved. Fast forward to October, and Onanuga confirmed that Edu’s position has been permanently filled by Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, a former Plateau State governorship candidate. Onanuga emphasized, “Betta Edu is gone… Her position has been taken over by someone else.”
